The world of the sequel has also become much darker than the first time we visited it. The narrative is more grounded this time around, but with the Divine being dead and the Void growing things are much more desolate and dismal this time around, though with the greater emphasis on doom and gloom the distinct narrative voice we have come to know from Larian studios remains in place. In addition to the humans and humanoid races, information may also be gathered by communicating with spirits and animals. The battle engine will feel familiar to players of the original, though certain tweaks have been made such as the ability to combine elements such as fire and poison when one of those agents of death just doesn't seem like quite enough. Additionally, blessing and cursing areas can alter the very ground combat is taking place in, incurring bonuses or penalties to whoever sets foot in the effected area.
In addition, they gain the Opportunist Talent that enables them to attack enemies that try to leave their presence. However, the Metamorph shines in its starting Skills. For instance, Bull Horns (Polymorph) and Tentacle Lash (Polymorph) can damage and debuff enemies. Likewise, Chicken Claw (Polymorph) can turn even the mightiest bosses useless by turning them into a, well, chicken. Moreover, tapping into Chicken Claw this early on can give players an unprecedented advantage in the long
That's not to say that Divinity: Original Sin 2 is purely a bleak fantasy story, however. There are still the same quirky moments that long-term fans of the series will approve of, with the fun and witty dialogue options to choose with NPCs a particular standout, but nonetheless there is a more brooding tone here. Whether that purely fits within the prologue, or is a longer-lasting part of the finished product, remains to be seen, but it's a nice change of pace and one that fans may well appreciate - depending on how far this different tone is pus
That said, Larian Studios has added some fun new elements to proceedings here, with a Curse and Blessing mechanic sometimes turning battles completely around. As one might suspect, cursing an object of the SLG game updates world makes it a rather hazardous element to come across, with the potential to have nasty surprises such as carrying disease. Meanwhile, blessing an item or element of the game world can turn even objects that would normally damage a character into a healing buff. It's a nice touch, that swaps around the gameplay just enough to keep players guess
Of course, much of the main pull of the original game was its combat, and once again Larian Studios has built upon what worked best the last time around. Thankfully, the level of creativity is still there, with environmental effects making up a big part of a player's success of failure in battles. Making a character wet and then zapping them with a hefty dose of electricity is still a fine tactic to use - although users should perhaps be warned that many other enemies seem to have grown a little wise to the tricks used in the first g
Overall, then, it seems as though Larian Studios has strengthened upon what made the original Divinity: Original Sin work, all the while tweaking moments to make it more compelling for audiences. There are still some questions to be asked, such as exactly how this newfound tone manages to bring it in line with the narrative of Divinity in general, but the developer certainly seems to be on the right track. There's still some way until the game is released at the end of the year, and so far fans of the series have reason to be exci
Instead of being limited to being human, Divinity: Original Sin II gives the player the option to also be an elf, dwarf, lizard, or undead, though that last one which is personally the most interesting option is not presently available in the Early Access build. There are also optional origin stories that the player can use for their character, four are currently available but more will be included in the final release. Origin stories not selected by the player will be seen in NPCs met during the game that could join the party.
